Understanding the importance of providing informational and entertaining
materials to those unable to travel long distances, the Okaloosa
County Cooperative Library is proud to introduce our patrons to
our Bookmobile services.
The
bookmobile began as a volunteer effort on the back roads of Okaloosa
County 30 years ago. We’ve come a long way! Read
more about our history. The Bookmobile continues to serves those
library patrons far from a library or with no easy way to come to
a library facility, but also stops at sites such as rehabilitation
facilities, senior centers, schools, and Boys and Girls clubs.
Driven by Char Purdy, the Bookmobile travels throughout
the county on Monday through Friday, serving approximately 1200
patrons at 55 bimonthly stops located all over the County. The Bookmobile
offers a wide variety of new book releases, audio tapes, videos
and DVDs. Recently, the bookmobile has come online with the same
automation system used by other Cooperative member libraries making
bookmobile selections “visible” to those searching the
Cooperative’s online catalog. Additionally, a card obtained
from the bookmobile can also be used at any OCPLC library, and materials
can be returned at any location.
A monthly bookmobile schedule
is available online and from the bookmobile or call 689-5581 or
974-5890 (cell phone) for more information. Please leave a message
and Mrs. Purdy will return your call as soon as possible.
The bookmobile, funded by Okaloosa County through the OCPLC, accepts
material donations in good condition. Marked donations can be brought
to any OCPLC member library and are always
appreciated.
